ReSkate / Guide

ReSkate Getting Started: Install, Mod and Play skate.

ReSkate is an open-source fan platform for skate. It has three parts: a launcher, a runtime that loads into the game, and a headless dedicated server. It adds offline play, private lobbies, mod support and an in-game menu.

ReSkate is a fan project. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Electronic Arts or Full Circle. You need your own copy of skate. on Steam.

Before you start

  • A legitimate copy of skate. on Steam, and a Steam account.
  • Windows 10 or 11 (the game side). The dedicated server also runs on 64-bit Linux.
  • Read the disclaimer — modding may conflict with the game’s EULA, and you accept the risks.

Install the launcher

  1. Download the latest ReSkate-<version>.zip from GitHub Releases.
  2. Extract ReSkateLauncher.exe and ReSkate.dll into either:
    • your skate. folder, beside Skate.exe (Steam → skate. → Manage → Browse local files), or
    • an empty folder, where the launcher installs the game for you (about 14 GB).
  3. Run ReSkateLauncher.exe. It checks for ReSkate updates, then checks your game files against the supported build.
  4. If the game is missing — or Steam has updated it past the supported build — sign in when asked (Steam Guard or a QR code). Only the files it needs are downloaded.
  5. Press PLAY.

ReSkate supports one game build at a time (currently Steam build 25414733).

Both keys can be changed in the launcher’s Settings.

Install mods

  • In the launcher, open the MODS page and browse Thunderstore, or drag a .zip or folder onto the window.
  • In game, the MODS tab of the ReSkate menu (Insert) turns mods on and off; most changes apply without a restart.
  • Mods live in Mods\<mod name>\ beside Skate.exe and are merged at launch. Outdated mods, or those that can’t merge cleanly, are left out with a message naming them.

Only install mods you trust — mods change game data, and script mods can run code.

Play offline

No EA servers are needed. Your skater, outfits, unlocks and progress are saved on your PC, and the game runs even with Steam closed. Start offline play first to confirm your setup works before adding mods.

Multiplayer

  • Steam lobby. Host a lobby for up to 32 players: public, joined with a code, or password-protected.
  • Dedicated server. Run ReSkateServer.exe for a persistent lobby. It needs neither the game nor Steam, and each release ships a native Linux build (Server/README-linux.md).
  • Parties and throwdowns. Party up in lobbies and on servers, and play Jam, Spot Battle and S.K.A.T.E., plus co-op challenges.

Staying safe

ReSkate does not include game files, and crash reporting can be turned off in the launcher’s Settings (ADVANCED) or with RESKATE_CRASH_REPORTING=0. Modding may conflict with the game’s terms, and porting assets or bypassing DRM can carry copyright and account-ban risk — use it at your own risk.
